but he's now calling for sharks to be protected.

I'm here to lobby for a bill to save the sharks,
"Brenneca said." I lost my arm in a shark attack, so it's a very powerful statement.

The Pew Environtment Group research centre bought
Brenneca and a group of eight other survivors to Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, to lobby senators to pass a ruling placing tough restrictions on shark fishing.

Dying Delicacy
More than a third of all shark species are endangered.
This is in part due to are cut off before the body is thrown back into the ocean.
Shark fin soup is a delicacy through out Asia, where it is in high demand. Around 70 million sharks die in the ocean from fishing each year.
Shark attack on humans, however are very rare, with only around 60 to 100 attacks per year worldwide.

Natureal Behaviour
Krishan Thompson is a 44-year-old banker who was attacked by a bull shark in 2001 in Bahamas. Now wearing an artificial limb, Thompson has become an activist, fighting for the survival of sharks.
" People might wonder why I want to protect sharks, considering that I was attacked by one,
"Thomson said." But sharks have been around for more than 400 million years
---since before dinosaurs--- and what the shark did to me was just part of its natural behaviour.

Happy Together
Thomson believes that people should leave sharks alone and that it's dangerous to upset the balance of nature.
"I don't want to find out what life would be like if shark ceased to exist," Thomson said." I believe that it would have a negative effect on the human race if we killed off all the sharks.
